Joining

Eligibility to join Kanturk Credit Union Limited is defined by our Common Bond, which includes people residing or employed in the parishes of Kanturk, Lismire, Banteer, Castlemagner, Kilbrin, Dromtarriffe, Freemount and Tullylease.

Documentation required to become a Member:
  • Photographic Identification
    • eg, Passport, Driving Licence etc
  • Address Verification
    • eg, Utility Bill (ie, Telephone, ESB, Gas etc), Bank or Building Society statement, etc

History

Kanturk Credit Union Limited – the early days

In 1958, three far seeing pioneers, Nora Herlihy, Seamus P. Mac Eoin, and Sean Forde introduced the Credit Union movement to Ireland. Today, the Irish Credit Union movement is among the most successful in the world, with the highest membership per capita.

In Kanturk Town Park on a warm summer’s evening in 1963, Seamus O’Mahony, Michael Lucey, Donal Hanrahan and Tommy Cross were busily engaged discussing the events of the day.
